Le Petit Bateau Float at Mardi Gras 2020

Creative design & Production

Awarded with Best Float Design 2020

Le Petit Bateau is an art collective formed by artists from around the world. For the iconic Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, we were commissioned to create and design the concept of "The Arc."

The float served as a powerful, multi-layered vehicle for change:

  1. Inclusivity & Unity: The core message of Mardi Gras is being inclusive and spreading equal love. The Arc visually and conceptually represented this by reminding the audience that "we are all in the same boat."

  2. Ocean Awareness & Circularity: We partnered with the Pyrmont Sailing Club to source materials, collecting old boat pieces, re-used materials, and significant amounts of ocean trash. This was a deliberate act to spread consciousness about the life and care of our oceans.

Sustainable Design & Production:

The commitment to circularity was integral to every element of the float's design and execution:

  • 100% Recycled Build: The entire float was constructed using salvaged and re-purposed materials.

  • Performer Activation: The performers who paraded were invited to go one step further, creating their unique costumes out of the trash they collected, turning them into living, inspirational examples of up-cycling for the crowd.

This unified approach, blending powerful social messaging with innovative sustainable design, led to The Arc being awarded the prestigious Best Float Design Prize in 2020.

Our mission comes with purpose & passion 🌿
